Hearthstone holds the most precious thing a family has — its voices. Here is what we promise, and how we build so the promise outlasts even us.
1. Your archive is yours.
Everything your family records belongs to your family. You can download all of it — recordings, transcripts, photos, dates, the family tree — any time, in ordinary formats, with no lock-in and no fee to leave.
2. We will never sell it, mine it, or advertise against it.
Your family’s voices and stories are not a product. We don’t sell, rent, or share your data or phone numbers, we don’t train public AI on your recordings, and we show no ads — under any owner, ever.
3. A lapsed payment never deletes your memories.
If payment stops, we pause the weekly questions and texts — but your archive stays, and your download stays available. We will never hold a family’s recordings hostage, and we will never delete an archive for non-payment.
4. Sealed messages are honored.
A message set to open on a birthday, a wedding day, or after someone is gone will open just as its author intended — and we design so that promise survives even the end of our company.
5. Your archive outlives the company.
If Hearthstone ever winds down, we give you ample notice, a complete export, and the tools and instructions to run your own archive on hardware you control. The service may someday end; your family’s archive does not.
6. Private recordings are encrypted with keys your family holds.
Recordings marked private are encrypted so that only your family’s chosen keyholders can open them — not us, and not anyone who ever compromised our servers.
7. We delete only when you ask.
You may remove any recording, or your whole archive, permanently, at your request. Otherwise we keep what you entrusted to us for as long as we operate — and hand it back if we don’t.
8. Always more than one copy.
Your archive is kept in several independent places — our server, an encrypted off-site backup, and, if you choose, a backup on your own home device — so no single failure can lose it.
